Be Part of Our Team

Day Care Host, The Filo Project, Somerset

The Filo Project is a not-for-profit enterprise offering high quality, small group day care for older people. Small groups give time and space for people to feel at ease and form friendships.

The Filo Project started in Devon in 2014 and expanded to Somerset in 2020. The popularity of our model has seen continued expansion and we are delighted to announce that we are now moving into other counties, including East Lancashire.

Our service is primarily for those who are socially isolated and may also be experiencing symptoms associated with early to moderate dementia including memory loss. Our aim is to provide a socially stimulating environment where our clients feel valued and at ease.

This is an exciting time to be joining The Filo Project as we move into new areas, extending our vital support and helping more people to live well with dementia.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for intelligent, empathetic and versatile people who would like to use their home to host a group of up to 4 older people on 2-3 full days per week.

You will be required, in your own home, to meaningfully occupy and engage with your group for a full day. You will typically be active with your group between 9.30am and 4.30pm,  starting with collecting your clients from their homes. You will then develop and lead the day in an organic way, dependent on the capacities and interests of the members of your group.

During the day you will also provide a freshly cooked two course lunch for your group. Eating together is an important part of the day, and provides an opportunity for high quality social interaction, where friendships can flourish.

Working for The Filo Project is interesting, satisfying and occasionally challenging! You will need to  be physically and emotionally able to work alone with your group for a full day.  Our hosts love their jobs, and are well supported by their Area Coordinators, and other nearby hosts.

When we asked our Area Coordinators about the attributes they see as valuable for a host they told us that it is important to have compassion and patience.
