Somerset is an ambitious, driven council with a clear focus. We want what is best for our residents, businesses and visitors alike. This does not come without its challenges, against a backdrop of substantial financial challenges. In this influential role, you will work collaboratively with Directors and Commissioners to shape commercial opportunities, deliver financial savings and efficiency targets, whilst enabling sustainable business models. You will be responsible for developing, leading and implementing commercial, category and SRM strategies and continuous improvement across all spend portfolios (c £400m). You will help drive a high level of integration between strategic sourcing strategies with the overall business strategies to ensure effective interaction between services, market and customers.
Going forward, you will help drive more innovative arrangements for providing services. This could include joined up working with other public providers such as the NHS to deliver more cost effective and integrated care services.
First and foremost, we are looking for a strategic leader with strong commercial acumen – somebody able to drive innovation to improve service delivery and deliver a programme of savings. This will include maximising council assets to generate revenue.
Whether you are from a public or private sector background, you will have a demonstrable track record of driving high levels performance through effective procurement, commissioning and/or contract management.
Aside from the above, you will be a keen collaborator and influencer who is able to quickly gain credibility with senior stakeholders and suppliers.
