About the job

You will begin your career with us straight in at a Grade 10 and a starting salary of £29,055. From day 1 you will be able to take advantage of the benefits of being an employed member of Somerset County Council staff, including staff discounts and a great pension. If you are relocating to Somerset in order to take up a position as a Newly Qualified Social Worker you would also be eligible for a relocation allowance. You will be expected to attend an interview; for further information on this you can contact the Consultant Social Workers leading the programme for a pre-discussion. We are an approachable organisation who wants our NQSW’s to succeed and then stay with us. This is a great opportunity for your career but also an important factor of providing the right support for vulnerable children and families in our county. The enhanced programme is Somerset’s next step to achieving a permanent quality work force. Somerset is also creating small teams of up to 4 Newly Qualified Social Worker’s led by a ‘Next Steps Team Manager’ who will have the time, enthusiasm and commitment to develop NQSW’s in a challenging and supportive environment. Part time hours may be considered for the right candidate.

About you

We want our students to have high aspirations and our NQSW’s to finish their Approved and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) having accessed the support available and which is assessed to the Knowledge and Skill Statements ready to become a fully-fledged social worker; but the support does not stop here as you will have access to mentor support for your second year along with high quality, mindful supervision. A valid UK driving licence is required, as you will need to travel to different locations in order to undertake the duties of the role.
