About the job
Working within the Children with Disabilities Team within the West of the County, and based in a locality hub office (to be agreed) within South Somerset, you will be working with children and young people who have a range of severe and complex disabilities. Work is carried out in a variety of environments including the young person’s home, school and carers’ homes if appropriate, and you will be expected to offer advice and information as well as making recommendations for equipment, minor and major adaptations, postural management, moving and assisting planning and other services following assessment. You will be working with social work colleagues within the team, alongside working closely with Health, Education, District Councils and the voluntary sector.
You will possess and be able to demonstrate your professional skills in assessing, evaluating and supporting the needs of children and young people, their families and/or carers to live as independently and as safely as possible. We are looking for an HCPC registered Occupational Therapist with an enthusiasm to ‘make difference’ in practice, a team player and with some practice experience or evidence of working with children and young adults. Regular supervision is carried out by an experienced Children’s Occupational Therapist and you will be expected to help supervise the Occupational Therapy Assistants in the West team. There are plenty of opportunities for internal and external training, plus attending national and other regional national events.
