Children’s Services, Team 8
Taunton

37 hours per week
Salary: £29,636 to £33,799 per annum

About Us

Team 8 is an innovative, specialist adolescent service sitting within Somerset Children’s Social Care who work intensively with adolescent children and their family network where destructive behaviours are causing significant challenges.   Using a creative, flexible and assertive approach, Team 8 intervention seeks to help families safely keep their young person at home, rebuild family relationships and move forwards to the best outcomes possible. Where a care episode has taken place, Team 8 can support adolescent children in a return home, seeking to build stability and sustainability in family relationships and prevent a ‘revolving door’ situation developing.  Team 8 workers follow the journey of the child in the system, so may work alongside social workers as a secondary service or hold the case as primary worker themselves where a social worker is no longer needing to be involved. Flexible working is central to Team 8 provision and all staff work to a rota pattern including evenings and weekend day provision plus contribution to the Rapid Response overnight service, which currently works four nights a week.

About the Job

We have an exciting opportunity available in Somerset West and Taunton unit, following promotion of the previous role holder.   Working as a senior staff member, you will be responsible for overseeing duty workers and case holders, plus holding a small caseload of complex families yourself, where you will be expected to act as a beacon of exceptional family work practice.

As one of ten Professional Practitioners within the county wide service, you will be required to act as shift supervisor for early and late turn working (between 7 am and 10 pm seven days a week), offering advice, guidance and support to workers who will often be mobile and out and about in family homes, education or care provisions and the wider community.   As such, clear decision making within an accountable framework is critical, as are excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to know when to escalate risk or safeguarding concerns to managers.     A creative and flexible approach to the role is vital, with the successful post holder able to make accurate and timely assessments of what will be effective in helping family members move on to their best outcomes.

The role holder will be supervised by and report to Senior Professional Team Leader for the service.
