ADOPT SOUTH WEST – Senior Social Workers

Opportunities have arisen to join Adopt South West, a new and exciting regional adoption agency established October 2018. As we continue to develop and expand we are looking to recruit experienced social workers throughout the region, offering full time and part time options.
3 FTE x posts within our Assessment Service
It is envisaged that the posts will be based in our Taunton and Yeovil offices. The teams are responsible for recruitment, training, and assessment of prospective adopters. Once approved you will support adopters actively family finding and attend adoption panel for approval and matching. An ability to complete comprehensive assessments and some experience of delivering training would be preferable. There will be opportunities within this role to contribute to the development of the service we offer to adopters and children as we continually review our services.
2 FTE x posts within our Family finding Service
It is envisaged that these posts will be based in our South and North Teams. The Teams are responsible for seeking adoptive families for children where the Local Authority Plan is adoption. We work closely with four referring local authorities, Somerset, Torbay, Plymouth and Devon. You will play a key role in supporting Children’s Social Workers through the adoption process, selecting adoptive families and ensuring the placements are planned and made in a timely way, to ensure that children are placed at the earliest opportunity. Fostering for adoption is large part of the role. Previous experience of working alongside foster carers would be an advantage.
You will attend and organise Family Finding events throughout the region and nationally. You’ll have strong interpersonal skills to successfully liaise with other authorities and adoption agencies across the UK. You will play a key role in early placement support until the adoption order is made.
An ability to complete comprehensive assessments and some experience of delivering training would be preferable. There will be opportunities within this role to contribute to the development of the service we offer to adopters and children as we continually review our services.
1 x Post Adoption Support Service
Social Worker – Post Adoption Team.
Opportunities have arisen for a qualified social worker (ideally with three years post-qualifying experience) to provide support to adoptive families in the North of the region. These posts will primarily cover Somerset cases; however, you may be expected to cover other areas across the region and beyond when needed.
The main duties will involve undertaking support assessments and reviews, providing therapeutic support to families, advocacy, and making Adoption Support Fund applications. This position will also involve supporting families who are in crisis, or where there is concern about placement stability. You will also be required to deliver workshops to parents and help facilitate support groups and assist in the delivery of therapeutic parenting courses. This role will include adult adoption counselling, including writing file summaries for adult adoptees and will also involve offering birth family support when needed.
You need to have experience of working with children and families and ideally safeguarding, adoption and group work experience. You must demonstrate an up to date knowledge of social work practice in relation to permanence and understand the needs of adoptive families and adoptees. You need to be well organised and able to manage and prioritise your own workload and work independently at times.
Please note, flexible working hours, travelling and some working out of the county may be required. This post will benefit from peer mentoring and monthly supervision to support you in this role.

Within all these roles the work is varied and rewarding, supporting families through our Therapeutic Parenting course and using models such as DDP and Theraplay techniques.
You will need to have some experience and understanding of adoption work and have gained experience of social work within children and families.
Flexible working hours, travelling and some working out of the region form part of these roles.
