In Assessment we have strong links with both our Family Intervention and Safeguarding (FIS) teams to ensure the transitions are as smooth as possible.  Our social workers and team managers work tirelessly to ensure that thresholds have been met and that our service users are stepped up to safeguarding if a Child in Need, Child Protection or Children Looked After order is needed or down to our Family Intervention Service.

We embed a strong sense of team with weekly meetings with our practice colleagues with weekly debriefs, fortnightly group supervision and we ensure that we all take ownership of our improvement plan.

We build resilience in our social workers through reflective and supportive supervision and strong case management conferencing. Somerset staff morale is good, and management are committed to staff retention.

Extensive training and development opportunities are supported by weekly continuing professional development, and on-site additional management support from Consultant Social Workers, and Advanced Social Work Practitioner (AP) Programme with role specialism. The AP salary scale is £34,728 to £38,890 pa.

We promote flexible working within our assessment teams and will consider part time, 9-day fortnight and other flexible working approaches.
